Nadunisi Naaygal Movie Review

A very disturbing opening..he could be a victim of sexual abuse, could be used by a peadophile, grows up in a home where there is no mother and father indulges in immoral activity. His commentary explains that his deviant behaviour began when he was eight. His neighbour in jeans and Kurti has a very traditional name..Meenakshamma. She sees him being abused, informs the police and rescues him. Brings him home and only to be raped by this kid but what is shocking is the woman’s passive resistance and her attitude of protecting the lad when her husband is stabbed, giving him the power of attorney even while he is the reason for her ninety degree burns on her body. Later in the story he says that she could have given him the property because of her guilt of sleeping with him.

Nadunisi Naaygal gets repulsive with every scene that moves ahead, dialogues are shocking despite many words being muted. Gautham Menon leaves no stone unturned to dramatise the mental disorder of a man, shows his bestiality as he turns a serial killer, sometimes mutilating the arms of a woman, chaining them and keeping them underground. The weak-hearted should keep away from such films and for those who think the film is not their cup of tea but are forced to review it, carry Stemetil and swallow each hour to keep away nausea..visuals of the disfigured and scarred woman telling the young man that he need not rape her she is more than willing to submit herself to him is disgusting.

If the first hour of the film is about kidnap, rape, murder and shaving of hair, the second is no different. It is more gruesome with a star appeal. Sameera Reddy steps in post interval and becomes an easy victim to the lead character of the film. The only interesting part of the film is the episode on the road, where the deviant man shoots the police, and takes away Sameera from the hospital.

Sameera breathes life into her role of an agonized woman who is trapped by a psycho who tortures her, stabs her, makes her swim in heavy rain and unleashes menacing dogs at her. Despite being a newcomer Veera sinks into the role with ease and looks every inch a psycho. The film could give a kick to the creative genius of Gautham Menon who’s made films like Kaakha Kaakha and Ye Maaya Chesave but it is utterly disgusting to note that such thrillers could pave way to many a crime and could give ideas to many frustrated individuals. He did give a message towards the end that such behaviour is a result of abnormal childhood experiences and they need a sympathetic healing not punishment.

There are two ways a filmmaker can show his concern for a cause, Gautham Menon definitely did not make the film for film festivals with subdued performances or emotionally moving scenes. He used the second method, of titillating, arousing extreme repulsion, thrill or drama to arouse the audience’s curiosity only to justify his film by passing a message in the end. Nadunisi Naaygal is a piece of perversion, it shows how a new age filmmaker can present the Kamal Hassan-Sridevi starrer his style.
